概要 An article on two collections of essays by English author George Orwell (1903-1950): Facing Unpleasant Facts (narrative essays) and All Art is Propaganda (critical essays); compiled by George Packer. The main focus of this article is twofold: to assert that Orwell's fiction - particularly his dystopian classics Animal Farm and 1984 -were greatly influenced by topics he had first covered in his many essays, such as the nature of totalitarianism; and also to describe the depth of Orwell's commitment to principles of freedom of speech as evinced by his essays.
