概要 | In this chapter, I want to address a conceptual extension of this doubling of time and place, namely, the "doubling of social relationships." This social relationship doubling is a contemporary phenomenon not seen previously in mobile media and is characteristic of the use of mobile communications media such as cellphones or smart phones are. "Behind" the smartphone's display screen are people, who are involved in the phone's communications via a variety of social networking services (SNS), messaging tools, etc. In today's communications environment, such social relationships go beyond what is visible on a phone display: They create intricate circumstances which, in turn, impact mutual, face-to-face interactions. Thus, the relative social status of the people involved is the most fundamental information needed to consider the differences in the "doubled relationships" the art manifested through the (smart) phone medium. This paper seeks to investigate the role that social status plays in these relationships. |
