概要 "Women and management: Global issues and promising solutions Vol.2 Signs of solutions" In this chapter, we have assessed the current situation in Japan for women's employment in management roles. We have argued that the notoriety of Japan as persistently the advanced economy with the most restricted opportunities for women to pursue managerial careers can best be grasped within the context of the traditional Japanese employment model that had been seen as the secret to its rapid rise to economic power in the postwar era. We have further argued that the increased criticisms about the traditional Japanese model and the concurrent changes it is undergoing in terms of some of key pillars, coupled with the demographic shifts in the country, could possibly be opening up the space for more rapid and fundamental transformation of the gendered nature of employment in Japan.
