|Self-administered diet history questionnaires were given to young, old men and women. Bood samples were taken early morning to determine plasma levels of various factors.
Old people or women have lower plasma levels of essential amino acids and BCAAs than young people or women, respectively. Increase in plasma levels of BCAAs increased only plasma levels of insulin, no increase being shown in plasma levels of glucose, TG, HDL-and LDL-cholesterol. In healthy men and women, the metabolisms of BCAAs and their effects on glucose homeostasis are not impaired.
