概要 | Amino acids are important substances that are transported to tissues such as the brain and muscles, and this process is considered insulin-dependent. However, it is not known to what extent each amino acid depends on insulin for transportation to tissues. Especially, tryptophan is important because it is converted to serotonin, melatonin, or kynurenine. After administering 50 grams of glucose or sucrose to young and middle-aged men, the levels of essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids in the plasma of both young and middle-aged men decreased significantly with glucose and sucrose intake. Surprisingly, plasma levels of tryptophan did not decrease with glucose administration. In conclusion, not all amino acids are transported to tissues insulin-dependently upon administration of glucose or sucrose, and tryptophan is speculated to resist insulin-mediated transportation to tissues. |
