概要 This is an analysis of the relationship between cubism and the fiction of James Joyce. In it, I demonstrate the similarities in approach to rendering the world employed by cubists such as Picasso and Braque with the techniques employed by Joyce in his major works (with the exception of Finnegans Wake, which I did not consider). I argue that as there is no evidence that Joyce was directly affected by the work of cubist painters nor of any influence flowing the other way, that they all succumbed to the influence of the society and time in which they lived, and that this accounts for the similarities I find in their approaches.
