概要 | Swing is one of the techniques used in music performance and it is expressed by dividing one beat into unequal two parts (e.g., 2:1). This study examined the effects of the position of swing within one measure on the impression of musical rhythm. Three conditions of the position of swing in quadruple meter were prepared: the "every-beat division," the "odd-beat (the first and third beat) division", and the "even-beat (the second and fourth beat) division." Twenty participants listened to musical rhythms with the five swing ratios (defined here as the index of swing's magnitude). They were asked to rate the degree of "wanting to move the body" and "pleasantness," using Scheffé's paired comparison method. The results showed that most highly rated swing ratios were obtained variously according to the positions of swing within one measure. The effects of swing on music appreciation under these conditions were discussed. |
