概要 | This paper introduces Kyakhta from the perspective of Japanese people in the Meiji and Taishō periods based on records of the travels of Japanese politicians and military personnel such as Nenomoto Takeaki (1878), Kuroda Kiyotaka (1886) and Fukushima Yasumasa (1892). Also covered are the reports of investigators such as Komagata Nobuo (1917) and the reports of the Asahi Simbun at that time.
Telephone lines were set up between Kyakhta, Zhangjiakou, and Kalgan in the period from 1897 to 1899, facilitating communication about events in the greater region during this period such as the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), the Russian Revolution (1904-1905), the Treaty of Kyakhta (1914-1915) and the Siberian Intervention (1918-1922). Japanese intelligence agents stationed in Kyakhta sent reports to Tokyo regarding relevant events and movements. The Asahi Shimbun and other Japanese newspapers also gave positive reports. |
